Famous National Parks

Nameri National Park: - Situated at the foot hills of eastern Himalayas and covers an area of about 200sq km. Hills, deciduous forest and the river Jia Bhoroli have added an unique charm to it. It is nearly three and half-hour drive from Jorhat.

Wildlife to be seen: - Tiger, Elephant, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Indian Bison, White winged Wood-Duck, Sambar, Sloth Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Pangolin, Jackal, Indian Wild Dog, Civet Cat, Capped Langur etc. Various birds including four species of Hornbills are found here.

Dibru-Saikhowa Natinal Park: - Dibru-Saikhowa National Park lies partly in Dibrugarh district and partly in Tinsukia district. It covers an area of about 340sq km. Of the seven parts of the park one part is wet land and the rest is mainly grassland and dense forest. It is famous for wild horse and white winged wood duck. It is situated 13 km. from Tinsukia town.

Wildlife to be seen: - Wild Horse, White-Winged Wood Duck, Leopard, Elephant, Sambar, Slow Loris, Indian wild water Buffalo, Capped Langur, Indian Wild dog etc. More than 250 local and migratory birds are found here.

Namdapha National Park: -It is situated in Arunachal Pradesh on the Indo-Burma border. It is few kilometers away from Miao. For the truly dedicated wilderness and wildlife fan, a visit to the Namdapha National Park is a challenging goal. Perhaps no other park in the world covers winter range of altitudes, from 200 meters to 4500 meters.

Wildlife to be seen: - A unique feature of the park is that it is the only one in the world in which four of the great species of Tiger are found: Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard and Clouded Leopard. Other animals found here are Bisons, Samber, Barking Deer etc. Varieties of snakes and dancing butterflies are also found here.

Gibbon Wild life Sanctuary: - Named after the rare Hollock Gibbon Monkey. Gibbon sanctuary is famous for seven species of monkey in addition to other wildlife. It is situated in Jorhat district.
